Comparison

The timeline is the product, and we do not have one

Kustomer is not really a helpdesk with a database attached. It is a customer data platform that happens to answer messages, and the argument for it is that every reply is written in front of a complete history of the person you are replying to. That is a genuinely different product, and it is worth understanding before you compare a price you cannot read against one you can.

What Kustomer actually is

Kustomer positions itself as an intelligent CX platform, and the organising idea is a single customer timeline. Its own platform page states that every interaction across chat, email, voice and social is unified in one customer timeline, and describes AI with full customer context that uses purchase history, conversations and customer data to resolve complex interactions. The tools you already run connect through what it calls plug and play apps, turnkey integrations and webhooks.

That framing shapes what the AI is expected to do. Kustomer describes agents that learn from business goals and continuously improve against metrics you set, naming customer satisfaction, upsell rate and customer lifetime value, alongside automated next step suggestions for human staff. It publishes a figure of 70 percent of conversations coming into chat being fully automated, which is a claim about their fleet rather than about your data, and should be read that way.

The price is the part you cannot read. Its pricing page states in its own words that every CX team's setup is different, so it does not post one size fits all pricing, and offers a two minute return on investment calculator in place of a table. Its detailed pricing page names two current plans, Enterprise and Ultimate, and shows Talk to Sales against both, alongside legacy seat based plans named Professional and Business and legacy usage based plans named ProfessionalAI, EnterpriseAI and UltimateAI.

What is published are the things sold on top. AI Agents for Customers was listed at $0.60 an engaged conversation and AI Agents for Reps at $40 a user a month. HIPAA compliance was $25 a user a month. Kustomer Voice started at $0.02 a minute, outbound messages were $0.025 each, data storage was $50 per gigabyte a month, and WhatsApp was billed on Meta's fees plus 20 percent of Meta's per template message fee. Those add on rates are quoted here because they were printed. No Kustomer plan price appears anywhere on this page, for the reason stated below.

Reasons to choose Kustomer instead

Written to be used rather than to be waved at. If any of these describe you, this is the wrong product and the rest of the page will not change that.

  • You need the record, not the reply. If answering a question correctly requires knowing what this person bought, what they complained about in March and what their account is worth, Kustomer was built for exactly that and this product cannot do the first step of it. There is no contact, no profile and no history here of any kind.
  • Your enquiries arrive in four places and have to look like one conversation. Chat, email, voice and social land on a single timeline. Askably answers on your own website and ignores everything else, and no configuration changes that.
  • You want the AI pointed at an outcome rather than at a document. Kustomer describes agents tuned against satisfaction, upsell rate and customer lifetime value. Nothing here optimises for anything. It retrieves passages, cites them and stops.
  • You are large enough that a negotiated contract is normal and probably better. Custom pricing is a real advantage above a certain size, because a published list price is by definition not shaped to you. If procurement expects a conversation, a vendor with four numbers on a page is not a serious counterparty.
  • You need compliance commitments in writing. HIPAA compliance is published as a purchasable add on at $25 a user a month, which tells you it is a supported configuration rather than something to be discovered later.

Reasons to choose this one

  • You can find out what it costs without booking anything. Four figures, published: $0, $29, $99 and $299 a month. Kustomer's own pricing page says it does not post one size fits all pricing, and both current plans read Talk to Sales.
  • Nothing is retained about the person asking. There is no profile, no timeline and no purchase history, which is a real limitation and also a real answer if the thought of a customer data platform holding your visitors' history is the problem rather than the goal.
  • Every claim in a reply is footnoted back to the passage that produced it, so a wrong answer is an argument about a specific document rather than about what a model inferred from a customer record.
  • Indexing capacity is part of the plan rather than a line item: 500 pages and 50 files on Starter, 5,000 pages and 500 files on Growth, 50,000 pages and unlimited files on Agency. There is no per gigabyte storage charge underneath any of that.
  • You can set it up in an afternoon without connecting anything. One script tag and either a set of uploaded files or a crawl of your own site that follows your sitemap and obeys robots rules. No integrations to wire, and nothing to migrate in first.

Read off their own site on that date, quoted narrowly. Prices and packaging in this category change often, so treat this as a snapshot and check both before you decide.

Kustomer published details
Stance on publishing pricesThe pricing page states that every CX team's setup is different, so Kustomer does not post one size fits all pricing, and offers a two minute return on investment calculator in its place.
Current plan namesThe detailed pricing page named Enterprise and Ultimate as the current plans, with Talk to Sales shown against both and no numeric figure for either.
Legacy plan namesLegacy seat based plans were named Professional and Business, and legacy usage based plans were named ProfessionalAI, EnterpriseAI and UltimateAI, again with no figures.

What we could not verify

Listing this is more useful than filling it in. Every line here is something that was not clearly published, or was behind a sign-up.

  • No numeric price for Enterprise or Ultimate appeared on either pricing page read. Both showed Talk to Sales where a figure would sit, so no Kustomer plan price is quoted anywhere above.
  • Kustomer's help centre articles defining a billable conversation and an engaged conversation would not render their body text, so the unit behind the $0.60 rate is published as a price without a definition we could read.
  • No contract minimum, seat minimum or annual commitment was stated on either pricing page.
  • Whether Kustomer branding can be removed from its chat widget, and on which plan, was not addressed on any page read.

Questions

Why is there no Kustomer plan price on this page?
Because there was none to read. Their pricing page says outright that they do not post one size fits all pricing, and both current plans show Talk to Sales. Lifting a figure from a review site would be guessing with extra steps, so the gap is left visible.
Can it see what a customer ordered?
No. There is no order system, no account lookup, no payment system and no CRM behind it. It answers from indexed material and nothing else, which means it can tell somebody what your returns window is but not whether their own return is inside it.
Does it keep a record of who asked what?
There is no customer profile and no timeline. If your reason for looking at Kustomer is that you want that record, this is the wrong product, and if your reason for looking here is that you do not want one, that is a real difference rather than a missing feature.
Is $0.60 an engaged conversation cheaper than $29 a month?
Below about forty eight of them, yes, on the published figure alone. But we could not read their definition of an engaged conversation, so that arithmetic rests on a unit we do not understand. Ask them what counts before trusting either side of it.
