A help desk in a suite, or one widget on one site

Zoho Desk is priced like a small purchase and shaped like a large one. What you are joining is a suite of hundreds of applications with a ticket queue at the front of it, and the AI reads from a help centre you are expected to build inside it. If you have no queue and no articles, most of the machinery is not for you.

What Zoho Desk actually is

Zoho describes Zoho Desk as AI help desk software made human simple, which unifies the customers, channels and context a business needs to deliver customer service, bringing conversations from every channel into one contextual workspace. It states that it integrates with more than 360 applications including the Zoho ecosystem and your existing stack, and that it is trusted by more than 125,000 businesses globally. Those are claims about their scale, not about your site.

Self service is a core part of the purchase rather than an extra. Zoho describes building a 24 hour help centre in minutes where customers track tickets, find answers in the knowledge base, join community discussions and get instant help from an AI bot. That is the thing worth weighing: the AI answers from articles you write and host inside Zoho, so the setup cost is writing them.

The AI is called Zia and Zoho describes it as built into Zoho Desk at no additional cost. It says Zia can answer from your knowledge base articles, from open domain data when an external model integration is enabled, or from both, and names four Zia Agents: Support Specialist, Resolution Expert, Quality Manager and Sentiment Analyst. The Express tier additionally listed up to 30 million free tokens a month for AI Agents.

The pricing page rendered four paid tiers and a free edition, all in rupees, with no dollar figure anywhere on it. On the date checked the published figures were Express at 420 rupees a user a month, Standard at 800, Professional at 1,400 and Enterprise at 2,400, each stated as billed annually, alongside a Zoho Desk Free Edition carrying three user licences and described as easy email ticketing out of the box. A 15 day free trial with no credit card is published. Nothing here is converted into any other currency, for the reason given below.

Reasons to choose Zoho Desk instead

Written to be used rather than to be waved at. If any of these describe you, this is the wrong product and the rest of the page will not change that.

  • Tickets are what you actually have. If enquiries need to be queued, owned, escalated, measured and closed, Zoho Desk does all of that and this product does none of it. There is no ticket, no status, no owner and no report on any of them here, and there is no configuration that produces one.
  • You already run other Zoho applications, in which case stop reading. A ticket that sits beside the customer record you already keep, inside a suite you already pay for and already know how to administer, is worth more than every feature argument on this page put together.
  • Three user licences free forever is a real offer. If two or three people share email support today, the free edition gives them a proper queue at no cost, and that is a better first move than paying anybody for a widget.
  • You want a help centre with your articles, your community and your ticket tracking in it, hosted for you. Zoho publishes all of that as part of the product. This reads your material and hosts nothing, so you would still need somewhere to put articles.
  • You want the AI to work on the queue as well as on the customer. The Zia Agents named include a Quality Manager and a Sentiment Analyst, which are jobs about your support operation rather than about answering a visitor. Nothing here looks at your operation, because there is no operation to look at.

Reasons to choose this one

  • There are no articles to write first. It indexes documents you upload or crawls the site you already have, following your sitemap and obeying robots rules, so the material that answers questions is the material you already published rather than a help centre you have yet to build.
  • Nobody holds a licence. Four flat figures, $0, $29, $99 and $299 a month, and adding a person does not add a line to the invoice. Zoho Desk is priced per user on every paid tier and the free edition stops at three.
  • The price is quotable in the currency you pay in. Their pricing page served rupee figures and no dollar figure appeared on it, which makes a small purchase harder to budget than it should be.
  • Answers are footnoted. Numbered references point back to the passages behind each reply, so what the assistant said can be checked against your documents without opening an administration console to find out why.
  • There is nothing to administer. One script tag, a threshold, and a fallback sentence you wrote. No portal to configure, no workflow to define, no roles to assign, and no suite to learn before the first answer is correct.

What we could not verify

Listing this is more useful than filling it in. Every line here is something that was not clearly published, or was behind a sign-up.

  • The pricing page served rupee figures only and no dollar price appeared anywhere on it, so nothing above is converted and the cost in any other currency is unknown from the page.
  • No monthly billing figure was shown beside the annual one on any tier, so what month to month costs was not readable.
  • What the 30 million token allowance covers in practice, and whether the higher tiers carry one at all, was not stated on the pricing page.
  • Whether Zoho branding can be removed from the embedded help widget or the AI bot, and on which tier, was not addressed on any page read.

Questions

How is this different from the Zoho SalesIQ comparison on this site?
Different module and a different job. SalesIQ is the visitor engagement product with operator licences and a bot scripting layer. Zoho Desk is the ticketing product with a hosted help centre and Zia on top of it. This page is about the help desk.
Why are the prices in rupees?
Because that is what their page served. No dollar figure appeared on it, and converting a rupee list price at today's rate would invent a number Zoho has not published. The figures are quoted as printed and left there.
Can it raise a ticket?
No. When a visitor asks for a person it collects a name, an email and a message and emails that to an address you nominate. There is no ticket, no queue and nowhere for it to be assigned, which is the gap Zoho Desk fills.
Do I need to write help articles for this to work?
No. That is the main practical difference. Zia reads a knowledge base you build inside Zoho. This reads the pages and files you already have, so a site with a good policy page is already most of the way set up.
